Nordic Skiing
Trail Grooming
In the winter, the Muskeg Creek trails are maintained and groomed for classic and skate skiing by club volunteers with an Alpina Sherpa pulling a Ginsu groomer.
Ski Team
Our Athabasca Nordic Ski Team participates in the Alberta Cup race series and select loppets. The group is for kids in grades 5 and up and trains at Landing Trail Intermediate School under coach Henrik Asfeldt. On-snow training is Tues, Wed, Thurs from 3:40 until 5:00.
Jackrabbits
The jackrabbit program is for kids ages 5 to 12 and is a great way to learn the fundamentals of nordic skiing! The program runs for 7 weeks beginning in January from Landing Trail School. The club has a ski rental program for jackrabbit skiers. Register on our registration page!
Athabasca Loppet
Every year in early January the club hosts a Loppet where skiers from all over the province come together for a fun race. Afterward, there is homemade chili and a bun, awards, and prizes! Register here!
Ski Team Expeditions
In the off-season, the ski team explores the backcountry, whether on skis or in canoes.
Ski Team Dryland Training
Ski training doesn't end in spring! The ski team continues training with Coach Henrik Asfeldt Tuesdays and Thursdays, 3:40 until 5:00 from May until the snow flies.
